How do you help students grasp what life and faith is all about so they can reach out to a world around them with compassion?
That is just what Campus Ventures does on the campus of Northwest College in Powell, WY. CV’s director, Seth Carter took a trip to Dondo, Mozambique with a Children's Relief International Green Door team walking the talk of compassion. He returned with renewed energy to carry that application to the next generation. In response, the CV students put their heads together creating a “Starvation for a Nation” week on April 26-May 2 and will partner with CRI to raise funds for Project Life’s soup ministry at the Ray of Light Project.

Medical care is a challenge in this community of 70,000 with only two doctors and a few other trained medical professionals. Medical equipment and medicine is limited and the hospital and families can’t always provide food for the patients. This opens the door for us to provide soup in one hand and the Good News of Jesus Christ in the other. The patients are always thankful for the cup of soup that we bring and the compassion of Christ that we share.

The CV students plan to start their “Starvation for a Nation” week by selling paper chains for $1. This "Soup Solution" of $1 can buy 5 bowls of soup for 5 who are hungry. They will sell t-shirts around campus and visit various businesses in town to give them the opportunity to donate to the soup ministry. During the week they will collect canned goods for the Powell Valley Loaves & Fishes, a local charity that provides food for the needy. The students will participate in a voluntary fast along with other activities at the CV house on Friday and Saturday so they can identify with the hungry. They will close the week May 2nd with a Washington Park community wide worship service in Powell at 3:30 p.m.

These students are about gaining knowledge, acquiring skills and developing character in order to make a difference in their world. They are well on their way to succeed!
